About Us.

In 2020, five friends gathered together over coffee. We had a mutual fascination with classic cars and motorcycles, and out of this shared passion came the Crankcases Car Club.

The club has since grown to over 100 members, most living on Saltspring Island, BC. The aim is to offer mutual help and advice, share knowledge in the maintenance and restoration of cars and motorcycles; to lend tools to other club members, and to assist in their projects when needed.

Crankcases is best described as “a car and motorcycle club for people who don’t want to join a car and motorcycle club”. We are slightly different in that we don’t have any club rules, there are no fees to join, no official meetings, and no club officers or administration.

We meet each Friday morning for coffee, usually at The Cassette Cafe in Ganges. Periodically, we have Friday coffee at a member’s house, where we get to see their workshop and projects. We do have one rule at these meetings, a twenty-second rule, just twenty seconds to talk about your health/

Summer activities include runs off-island for lunch, trips to Port Renfrew or the north of Vancouver Island, and trips to wineries and car shows. In the winter, we have a monthly film night program, choosing films with a car or motorcycle theme.

At our Christmas Party, we award the annual “Doh Award” to the member who has had the most embarrassing car or motorcycle-related screw-up in the past year.

Each Wednesday, a coffee email is sent to all members, containing the club news and any cars and motorcycles that have come up for sale.

To join our email list, please send your name, email address, and the make of car or motorcycle you own, or would like to purchase, to Andy at ajwhiggs@gmail.com
